Just in time for summer, Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve will open its gates for all to enjoy.

happy valley news

For the first time in more than 120 years, kayaking, fishing, bike riding, walking and picnicking will be available at the Happy Valley Reservoir in Adelaide’s south – less than half an hour from the CBD.

Nestled just beyond O’Halloran Hill, Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve combines adventure, family fun and environmental preservation for the perfect nature experience.

With views across the water to the Adelaide Hills, the reserve offers walking trails, picnic areas, shelters and BBQ equipment. Cast a line from the shore, or bring a kayak or canoe to discover hidden bays and shorelines from the water. For those with an adventurous spirit, trails make Happy Valley a great stop for mountain biking, trail running or hiking.

Whether you like exploring on the water or prefer to hit the trails on land, Adelaide’s newest outdoor adventure destination ensures there is an experience waiting for everyone. The reserve boasts two kayak launch areas – one equipped to enable disability access – and more than 20 kilometres of trails looping around the reserve and dam wall which also forms part of South Australia’s newest national park, Glenthorne National Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta.

If you are looking for more of a relaxing day with family and friends, rather than hiking, trail running, kayaking or biking, pack a picnic basket and use the settings and shelters with stunning water views. Or, if you are someone who appreciates South Australia's unique environment, be delighted with Happy Valley’s habitat areas and native vegetation, and enjoy the heritage and biodiversity present in the reserve.

New visitor facilities, including two internal car parking areas suitable for trailers, a kayak drop-off facility and multiple pedestrian gates have been designed to ensure the safe flow of traffic around the reserve and seamless access for those visiting.

Come and be delighted by the new public access features and ENJOY, EXPLORE, PRESERVE HAPPY VALLEY RESERVOIR RESERVE.
