Make the most of South Australia’s reservoirs
As the weather warms up, take advantage of your weekends and upcoming school holidays by creating your own adventure filled day at one of South Australia’s reservoir reserves.
There are ten reservoir reserves currently open to the public, with Happy Valley joining the line up before the end of 2021 and an upgrade scheduled for Mount Bold. Each reservoir reserve has a variety of outdoor activities on offer, ranging from kayaking and fishing at some locations to hiking, trail running, cycling and picnicking at others.
Visiting a reservoir is the perfect way to get the kids out of the house during school holidays, spend a weekend with family and friends or take on a solo adventure.
Load up the kids and bikes or pack a picnic lunch and binoculars to enjoy the picturesque scenery of some of South Australia’s most beautiful locations.
On hot days, reservoir reserves will be some of the naturally coolest places in South Australia, making them the ideal escape. You might be lucky enough to spot some of the native wildlife calling them home, like a bandicoot, echidna or even a Heath Goanna.
All reservoir reserves are free to enter and feature on-site facilities including parking, toilets and seating areas, so you can focus on enjoying, exploring and preserving.
Take it to the water
If you like on-water activities, visit one of our four reservoirs that offer kayaking and canoeing, and enjoy things from a different perspective.
And in just a few weeks, we’ll be opening two more. South Australia’s two largest reservoir reserves, Happy Valley and Mount Bold, will offer new recreational activities for the public to enjoy.
- Mount Bold Reservoir Reserve (new access by the end of 2021)
Just 45 minutes south of Adelaide, lying in the picturesque Adelaide Hills is Mount Bold Reservoir Reserve. Mount Bold is the largest reservoir in South Australia and is surrounded by 5,500 hectares of land, home to more than 160 native animal species.
- Happy Valley (opening Saturday 11 December 2021)
Nestled just beyond O’Halloran Hill, Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve provides a unique escape right in the heart of Adelaide’s southern metropolitan suburbs which combines adventure, family fun and environmental preservation for the perfect nature experience.
